1.07.2015 - APN Symposium, Edinburgh (Scotland) 6th October, 2015The APN

Symposium 2015 will take place on Tuesday 6th October 2015 in conjunction with the Global Alcohol Policy Conference 2015 to be held the 7-9 October.

We intend to start registration at 8:30, the Symposium itself at 09:00 am and finish not later than 5:00 pm.

The Preliminary program will cover among other topics: recent developments in selected countries and internationally; marketing and sponsoring; young people; alcohol policies in developing countries.

Desirable elements for a new alcohol strategy in the EU. Letter sent to EC commissioner with the conclusions resulting from the debate tat took place during our last symposium in Brussels.

Other information : Alcohol Policy in Europe: Evidence from AMPHORA 

  • The e-book gives an overview of the findings of each study carried out under the AMPHORA Project (Alcohol Public Health Research Alliance), with chapters written by the scientists responsible for the research.
  • AMPHORA Manifesto and video which summarises the key messages and recommendations coming out of the, coordinated by the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona, and co-funded by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme.
  • Press release presented at the AMPHORA conference that took place from the 17-19th of October 2012 in Stockholm that highlights the risk for cancer posed by alcohol as consumed at the current average level in Europe.

The next APN meeting will take place in Stockholm, on October 17th 2012, just before the stockFifth European Alcohol Policy Conference “European Debate on Evidence-based Alcohol Policy”. It is organized in collaboration with the Amphora Project and with Swedish partner organizations.

The agenda includes, in addition to a debate on a new EU alcohol policy, presentations and discussion on pricing and taxation, social media and control of advertising. There will also be “news from members” in which APN members are invited to make brief statements on recent developments in their constituencies. More information and registration.

Second European conference on Alcohol Law Enforcement: Reducing drunkenness and over-serving related violence
15 and 16 November 2012 Stockholm

On November 15th and 16th the Dutch Institute for Alcohol Policy (STAP) and the Swedish National Institute of Public Health (SNIPH) host the second European network conference on Alcohol Law Enforcement. Law enforcement experts and professionals from all over Europe will be able to exchange knowledge and experiences during a conference specifically focused on enforcing alcohol legislation. This year’s theme will be the enforcement regarding drunkenness in public setting and over-serving customers. Like last year the conference is a two-day event. The first day (15th) is dedicated to practice and science with speakers from several European countries and from the US. The second day is focused on sharing practices in Europe on reducing alcohol related violence.

On October 27th and 28th 2011, the Dutch Institute for Alcohol Policy (STAP) organizes in Rotterdam the First European network conference on reducing youth drinking by law enforcement.
Professor Wagenaar from the University of Florida will inaugurate the conference which will feature speakers from Sweden, Switzerland, UK and Netherlands.
The conference presentations are available for download at the conference website.

On October 10th 2011, the next APN meeting will take place in Poznan, just before the MEDUSA Experts Conference: “Alcohol Policy in Poland and around Europe: Medical and Economic Disadvantages of Using Alcohol”.
The APN meeting agenda includes: examples of good practices of alcohol policy making, updates on action of international agencies and research, and debates on 3 issues: young people and drinking, local action and pricing policies.
